Hey! My name is Chris Pinto and for the last 6 weeks I’ve been interning at Jelly Social as their Digital Marketing Specialist. My responsibilities involve social media management and content creation/processing. I’ve learned a lot during my time with Jelly and I’d like to share some insights here with whoever may find them useful.
Entering the Internship
As a Multimedia Design and Development student at Humber College, I entered this internship with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. I learned from my previous freelance work as a Social Media Manager for a few small businesses that each client has different needs, and no two marketing strategies are the same.
So, when I started my time with Jelly, my plan was to first learn the business. I began by absorbing as much of the content that had already existed online to better understand Jelly’s mission. Through the many videos on YouTube and the existing social media pages I was able to gauge the voice of Jelly and its target audience.
Getting Started
Next, I met with Jelly’s leaders to discuss the possible directions they’d like to see the organization head in. I felt incredibly blessed to have had the online presence of Jelly Social be entrusted to me by its founders. They provided me with the tools and resources I needed and told me to run with it. So that’s what I did.
I’ll admit, at first I felt intimidated by the sheer abundance of possibilities I could have explored in such a short time. However, that limited time frame I was working in was also my driving motivation to just get started. Rather than spending too much time trying to figure out what I wanted each social media to look like months down the line, I decided to prioritize activity and engagement.
Developing Jelly's Content
Together with Sunjit and Amanda, I set a schedule for myself to follow to ensure consistent, branded, and meaningful content. With dedicated days to celebrating Jelly’s network, promoting Jelly Social events, and sharing current news I was able to make Jelly an active online community presence.
Along the way, I found the perspective I was looking for and was able to write all my content from the mind of Jelly rather than that of an intern and found myself to be even more passionate about bringing equal opportunity to BIPOC entrepreneurs.

I cannot thank Jelly Social’s founders enough for giving me this opportunity to strategize and implement my own plan with all the support I could have asked for. Their generosity and passion for this project have been abundantly evident in every single interaction I’ve had with them. Their unwavering dedication to this mission is echoed through their increasingly growing network of BIPOC and ally entrepreneurs in the GTA. I am grateful to have been part of the Jelly Social story and look forward to carrying on their mission with me in my own career.
